What the Data Says ...

Orange County has a population of just over 3.1 million, and it is estimated that there are up to 90,000 residents who identify as LGBTQ+

Entrepreneurship Impact:
According to the 2023 StartOut report, LGBTQ+ founders create 36% more jobs, generate 44% more exits, and create 114% more patents than the average founder, though they often raise 16% less funding.

Research on LGBTQ communities in California shows higher poverty rates and significant barriers in employment, housing, and health care access, which all affect the ability to start and sustain businesses.

Local Data Gap: County and City agencies collect very limited sexual-orientation and gender-identity (SOGI) data, so there is no official count of LGBTQ+ owned firms or their revenue locally.

However, data indicates that fostering inclusive economic policies, such as recognizing LGBTQ+ certified businesses, is a priority in Orange County
